Ben Viljoen, with SOOmen with a Pompom and two'Maxirns has gono south along the Steelport Valley. He abandoned his wagons and destroyed a 15-pounder captured at the battle of Colenso, and a Krupp gun.
Colonel A. P. Pulteney occupied Noo?onkraal, where the Landdrost and 110 burghers surrendered. Jacobus De Wet, Christian's uncle, was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment and fined £350 on a charge of treason. At Birkley East J. W. Sauers, brother of William, was convicted as the ringleader of the Cape rebellion and was sentenced to one year's imprisonment. Eight other trea3on prisoners were fined sums ranging from £250 to £SOO. Colonel G. E. Benson, captured in the Tantesburg ranges 64 Boers, a Krupp gun and a quantity of ammunition. Beceived this day at 9 13 a m. London, April 2G. De Wet, with a few followers, was recently seen near Villiersdorp. Prior to embarking in the Tongariro to Teturn to Australia, some Australians wrecked an office of a South African newspaper. They stigmatised the Australians as the scum of the earth for liveliness. In town a few nights previously.' The editor escaped through the window Some one in the Provost Marshall's office afterwards paid the damage. In connection with Commandant Breslas's recent capture, the Boers fired after displaying the white flag, killing one irooper and wounding three.
