STATE-OWNED CABLE.

(per press association—copyright.)

Received this day at 9,54 a.m. Sydney, This Day.

The. Daily Telegraph says that not much sympathy is to be expected on this side with Seddon's proposed state-owned New Zealand and Australian cable. The Commonwealth is not likely to become a cable-owner, and the Imperial and Colonial policy has been to let cables alone. It is not at all likely that the Federa l Government will depart from this rule to partly own the New Zealand cable, even if the conditions were such as to make smother wire necessary. Another is not required at present. A double wire is sufficient for all the trade there is.
