Britain has ceded to Italy the town of Soomat on the River Atdara in the Easts rn Soudan in recognition of Italy having conquered and ceded to Britain some time ago, the town of Kassale which is within the Italian Sphere of influence. Coal Contracts. Beach, replying to a deputation, said that existing coal contracts will hft exempt from export duty. An Earthquake. Received this day at 9 3 a m. Rome, April 25. The earthquake in Italy did some damage to the Raphael Frescoes in the Vatican and Pantheon. Royalty's Whereabouts. London, April 25. The Ophir passed Anjer Batavia at six his morning. The Coronation Oath. Liberal Peers decline to sit on the Committee appointed to deal with the Accession Oath. Salisbury is averse to a one sided Committee. German Railway in Africa. Berlin, April 25. The Reichstag referred to the Budget Committee the Bill provided for the construction of a railway between Daressalaam a seaport in German East Africa, and Ologoro an inland townj estimated! to cost £1,200,000. During the discussion Bulow warned members that unless the railway was built, Britain will divert the. whole trade of German East Africa.. Herr Richter supported the social democrat leader, and Her Bebel denounced the scheme on the grounds that it would bo impossible to make the line pay. Received this day at 10.50 a.m. In reference to the DaressalaamAlogoro Railway, it is proposed that the German Government guarantee a syndicate of bankers three per cent on cost.
