During his visit to Australia tho Premier intends to again urge that a cable Now Zealand and Australia should be laid by the Governments of this colony and the Commonwealth. When last in Australia Seddon advocated this undertaking as one needed and profitable. In reply given by Mr Barton (tho Federal Premier,) he thought that private enterprise would meet all requirements, and tho Premier was convinced that the laying of a state owned cable between New Zealand and Australia was within reasonable distance of accomplishment.

Regarding the discovery of the body of an infant buried in a gully near Wyndham, it has been ascertained that the mother is a girl aged l'l years and in service, who went about her work as usual and only admitted the facts on being taxed by her mistress. It is understood that medical evidence is inconclusive whether the infant breathed, and the charge will probably be concealment of birth. The inquest was adjourned.
