THE NEW ZEALAND-AUSTRA-LIAN CABLE.
(per press association.)
Wakapuaka, This Day.
Much to the relief of the Cable Coy’s officials the cause of the last fault in the Cable, which the Recorder repaired some days ago, has been definitely ascertained. On the passage across to Sydney the electricians on a ship closely examined a piece of cable which they cut oat, and found a fishbito had nearly cm the wire through. A half-inch tooth was firmly embedded in the core. The cable was lying in three and thirty fathoms of water at a locality fault, and the cable officials state that such an occurrence is most unusual at that depth. Prom one point of view this discovery is extremely welcome, in as much as it shows that the rocky ledge which is known to exist at the locality. Fault does not present quite so dangerous characteristics as at first attributed to it.
