TRADE DISPUTES.

Dunedin, April 18, The Conciliation Board was engaged hearing the dispute between tho Coal Miners’ Union and the Shag Point Coal Coy with reference to the new seam lately opened up. Other seams are worked under the award made previously, but the Union contended that tho now seam being a new one should bo regarded in a special light. For the Company it was contended that tho wages averaged over 10s per day so they could not afford to pay tho demand. The Court’s decision was reserved. The dispute between the Coal Miners’ Union and the New Zealand Coal and Gil Company was then taken. This has reference to engine drivers and firemen at tho Kaitangata mine. The company contended that the demand was for as increase of 3s per day for engine drivere [ and 2s for firemen and would be more than qualified engineers could be got for The Court’s decision was reserved. Reference has boon filed in the dispute between the Bakers’ Union and Southland Master Baker;. The hours asked are 51 wages and £2 12s 6d for foreman, and this only when there is only one man, £3 being the recognised wage, for the second hand £2 10s, table hand £2 3s,
