Orepuke Shale Works. Donbdin, April 17. A deputation of the directors of tho Company owning the Orepuke shale works waited on the Hon. Mr Ward to orge the advisableness of tho adjustment of freights for the special products of the works. The Minister expressed himself desirous of promoting the interests of the industry in every legitimate way and promised to look into the matter with i view to giving the relief sought when re- ' adjusting rates on hi 3 return from Melbourne. Enquiry into Wreck of the Ariadne. Oamaeu, April 16. The Court of Inquiry into the stranding ). of the yacht Ariadne gave its decision this afternoon. It held that there wa3 no evidence to support the assumption that tho Teasel was designedly stranded. The captain had not exorcised due care and had been guilty of a grave error of judgment. Leslie Eeynolds lias been retained by the Patea Harbor Board to report upon the proposed improvement of the harbor. Shooting Accident. PaHIATGA, This Day. A young girl, four years old, named Smith, residing with her parents at Makario, was accidently shot by her brother with a gun with winch the children were playing.
