FIRE AT AUCKLAND.
(rEK press association)
Auckland, April 10. A fire occurred to-night in Ponsonby, resulting in the almost "entire destruction of the shop and contents of Lambourne and .Dewar,'ironmongers and furniture dealers; J. Ciissidy, milliner and fancy goods'dealer; and H. and J. Harrison, pork butchers. The tire had a good hold before the brigade arrived, and at first it appeared that' the whole block of sonic dozen buildings (all built of wood) would be burned. The fire, however, was confined to the shops mentioned, all of which were gutted, very little stock being saved. All the shops destroyed were owned by Lambourne and Dewar, who estimate their loss at about £B,OOO. The insurances are about £5,000 in the Royal. The insurances on the stocks of Cassidy and Harrison cannot at present be ascertained.
