BOER OR BRITON.

{To the Editor.)

Sib.—A letter headed Boers or Britons and signed " Uitlander" appeared in your issue of the 9th inst, dealing with the appointment of a pupil teacher for the Kokiri school.

The appointment of Miss Stephenson has met with general approval. The parents of children attending the school are well satisfied, and the teacher should be also, as the girl has been educated under he care and the best qualified in he schoo for the position. As for Uitlander's " attack upon the Inspecto ..nd tho Board generally, it is altogether unwarrantable. The Inspector was quite correct in stating that the teacher had no right to recommend Miss Cunningham, for the very simple reason" that she never at any time attended the Kokiri school. He describes himself as a disinterested outsider, not even residing in the district, and suggests that candidates for the Grey Education Board be required to pass an easy 2nd and would be committee men a Ist standard examination so that they could correctly answer a few questions on the " Hact."

I would suggest that the next time Uitlander " intends to rush off into print, that he spend a little less time studying the " Hact," and a little more studying facts on the subject. However, I think the people of Kokiri are quite capable of managing their own affairs without any interference from outsiders. I am etc.— Besident. Kokiri, April 12th, 1901.
