SUNDAY TRADING.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —3ome time ago, the police prosecuted a resident of Reefton for driving a vehicle containing machinery through the streets on a Sunday morning.

For years past it is a well known fact that certain shops are lit up in the same manner, dn a Sunday evening as during the week, and although the front doors are shut, they are not locked. You can enter and purchase anything you like. But what do we find now—each Sunday evening a certain establishment has not I only the shop lit up, but leaves tho door ! open, and this person is not a Chomisr, Now Mr Editor, I should very much like to know "where are our police ?" and why do they make fish of one person and flesh of another. Wo consider it quite as illegal to keep a shop open on a Sunday evening as to do cartiDg on a Sunday morning, and now hope that the poiice in future will do their duty, irrespective of the persons standing on calling. Yours, etc., — Fair Play. Rcefton, April 15th, 1001,
