MIDLAND RAILWAY COMMISSION.

Before the Midland Railway CammisRion to-day the Under Secretary for Lands produced a return of land granted by the Crown to the Company or to Trustees. With regard to contracts, counsel for the Crown said he was agreeable— axcept os English contracts—to accept as a tost a return of contracts which were left by public tender, Ho supposed he ought to call evidence to show what would be the ordinary area allowed for supervision • Tho chairman said he thought the returns before the Commission showed that some English contractors were paid for work which was done by other persons, or not done at all. Mr Young said the matter v/ould be satisfactorily explained. The Commission adjourned till Monday.
