OUR KUMARA LETTER.

(OUE OWH COEEESFONDEHT.) «.

Very general sympathy is felt for Mr Francis Aldeyne Olden at the loss he has sustained in tho death of his wife who passed away at the local hospital on Wednesday night. Tho deceased lady was a native of Kent, England, was 60 years of age, and had been 37 years im the colony. The many friends' of Mrs Fitzgerald o£ the Wainihinihi, Christchurch road, will regret to hear that a very serious illnesshas overtaken her. She now lies at the residence of her son in Seddon Street, andL from latest information I learn that her condition is causing grave anxiety.

Latest news from Brunnerton in regard to the condition of Mrs Rugg is to the effect that but faint hopes are entertained of her recovery.

From grave to gay, is always a welcome transition. Mr Robinson, dredgemaster of the Greenstone Creek dredge, has evidently concluded f hat there is truth, in the old scriptural adage, "It is not good for man to be alone.' Hence he has decided to relinquish the pleasures of single blessedness and take unto himself a partner for life. I learn that his present visit to Ross has that object in view.

Speaking of the Greenstone Creek dredge reminds me that the man in the street informs mo, with some appearanee> of truth, that the tables are showing gold freely. The figure fixed for next Saturday's return is certainly very gratifying,, but I refrain from giving it a 3 rumour generally exceeds the truth, and little good can be gained from exciting expectations that may not be destined for realisation. Let us hope, that what I have been relating will prove true, not merely in regard to the dredge, but others, as something is needed to instil a little life into the industry as some people, for an inexplicible reason, seem to be losing con-. fidence in it.

The Greenstone Junotion Dredge has just been faced (or the ereek and in a short time should be into deeper and more solid ground, as it is dipping fast in that direction with better indications.
