THE KUMARA RACES.
(OUR OW'N CORRESPONDENT.)
Tho second day of the Kutnara races opened with a splendid promise as far. as the weather was concerned, a promise that was amply fulfilled as the day wore on. The course was a trifle soft from the previous rain. There was not quite so large a crowd as on tho previous day, but, tho moneyed men were evidently present as is shown by the amount put through the totalisator. Monday £1958 was put through, and on Tuesday the amount was £1930 or £3BBB in all. This’is certainly a very gratifying success and will leave the Club with a substantial credit balance with which to effect some much needed improvements. To the Greymouth Club and also Grey Valley and Eeefton sporte we are indebted for tho more than ous measure of support accorded our under very trying circumstances. What was a threatened defeat and perhaps a crushing one was turned into glowing success.
This time next year we hope to welcome our friends and supporters to a course of appointments that will be more in keeping with modern requirements. If lam not anticipating an official acknowledgement I bog to express the thanks of Kumara Club and people to all those who supported us by either their presence or purse or both during our recent meeting. To Hokitika we feel no enmity as we can afford to be generous in success, their action proving we had friends we little dreamed of.
