Adelaide, April 7,

A fire at Martin Coy’s large drapery establishment caused great destruction of stock, valued at £IOO,OOO. Every insurance company in the city is involved in tho loss. Tho amount of damage is not yet assessed. Martin’s building and stock were valued at £115,000. Tho damage is between £70,000 and £BO,OOO. The whole western wing of Mamin’s largo three story building is gutted. Grcst damage has been done by water and smoke. The eastern wing is still J smouldering in the basement. 130 employcer and a number of customers were inside at tho time of the outbreak. The male employery lined up at the main entrance and as.-istod all the females to escape before they themselves attempted to leave. Adelaide, April 8, The fire in Martin’s started at the Device window, which was fitted up to symbolise the Easter season. Tho insurances include National of Now Zealand £2,000 ; New Zealand £B,COO ; Standard, New Zealand £1,500 and North British £2,000. John Cresswell’s insurances were in the Insurance Company of New Zealand.

It is stated that since the beginning, of the year insurances have lost nearly £350,000 in Australia and New Zealand.
