(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, This Day. A melee ensued at the racecourse yesterday while the police were arresting a man named Charles Clarke for committing a breach of the peace. Some of the crowd attempted to prevent the mounted police from assisting the arresting officer, who was having a bad time. One of the trooper’s horses, who reared, struck the prisoner on the head, causing a nasty wound. Miss Webster, aged 50 years, was accidently knocked down by a horse

and was removed to tlic hospital suffering from a scalp Wound. The crowd Was in a rather dangerous mood towards the finish.
