Memorial to Queen Victoria. Received this day. at 9 39 a m. Lord Esher, in a letter to the Lord Mayor, states that a quarter of a million is required to provide a worthy national memorial to the late Queen, and suggests that a special appeal be made to the Nation on May 24th. Smelting Frauds. H. E Frydon, director of the melting corporation, and R, H. Evan/ smelter, have been arrested on a charge of having forged warrants for gold. They arc believed to bo the principals in tbo alleged frauds on the banks. It is believed that the smelting corporation is ruined. Shares are offered at a shilling each.
