A meeting of ci izens convened by the acting Mayor, and at which there was a good attendance, was held to-day to consider matters in connection with the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York.
Mr Holmes, Government Commissioner was present and explained what was proposed to be done elsewhere. A number of committees were appointed to make the necessary arrangements for a suitable reception to the Royal visitors. Wellington, April 1.
A joint committee of the City Council and citizens met this morning and it was resolved that an address of welcome be presented to the Royal visitors, that the city should erect only cno arch across Jei-vois Quay and that other parts of the province and citizens are expected to erect arches also.
Ddnedin, April 1. At a meeting of the committee for the reception of 'he Duke and Duchess of York, a programme was outlined which includes a drive through the main streets which are to be decorated and festooned; tfyo presentation of an address pat the Town Hall; visit to and opening; of the Winter show and a reception in the evening. The city is to be illuminated. On the following day the Duke will bo asked to lay the foundation stone of the Queen’s statue and attend a children’s demonstration and floral display, and a maritime display on the evening of the Ophir’s departure.
