A meeting of the Kumara Jockey Club was held last evening when a considerable amount of business in connection with our Race meeting on Easter Monday and Tuesday was gone through. The Chairman reported having proceeded to Grey-mouth when arrangements were made to run a special train on b >th lays to Kumara station leaving Greymouth at a quarter to ten in the morning.

It was decided to send the Catholic Band to the station to meet the second train. The course was reported to be in splendid order. The privileges soil on Saturday realised much more than was expected' under the circumstances, showing the confidence >f the business people in their ability to rise superior to any fear of failure. No 1 booth Mrs Stevenson, £26; Nos 2 and 3 sold private!/, £4O, purchaser Mr T. Green. Fruit stalls (2j purchased by Mr T. Green, £lO 10s ; cards, Mr Benyon, £5 10s. Total £Bl.

Scarletina is reported to bo prevalent in Greenstone, and in consequence the school has been closed. There is what is reported to bo a case of leprosy not 100 miles from Wes,brooke. The victim is a Chinaman. 1 learn that ho has not left his hut for some time back and that the disease, whatever it is, has made its appearance in erruptions on his face. I give the rumour for what it is worth, but, seeing that this particular Chinaman’s hut is a favourite resort for young lads, it might be as»well were the Board of Health to investigate the matter.
