At a meeting of the Goklsborough Mort Company they adopted a resolution reducing the capital by £387,000, * Rise in Meat. The butchers have increased the price of meat a penny a pound all round, owing to the high price of stock. Increased Stakes. The V.A.J.C. decided to increase tho stakes of the various events for the forthcoming meeting as follows: —Futurity stakes to £ISOO, Grand National Hurdles £llsO. Debutante stakes £I3OO, Caulfield guineas 650. Railway Purchase. Hobart, March 26. The Government have purchased Colonial Nort's Company's railway, thus being able to make an extension to the Comstock mines.
