NELSON CREEK NEWS.

(OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

A public meeting was held in the Club Hotel, Nelson Creek, on Tuesday night for the purpose of urging upon the Government the necessity of repairing the track to Lake Hochsteter. After several persons had spoken on the necessity of the work and the present state of the track, the following resolutions were passed:— That the meeting respectfully requests Government to have tho track from Hatter's to Lake Hockstetter repaired and opened up as soon as possible, and urge upon the Government the necessity of laying out the money, which it is understood, was voted last session for this work. They give the following as some of the reasons for making the request. Ist Government have spent a certain sum on this track, but owing to there being no bridge across Big Gorgy Creek about four miles from Hatters, and the track boyond Sutherland's Creek being blocked with scrub, etc., the spending of this money has been of little benefit.

2nd. There is a considerable amount of auriferous ground in this locality which might be opened up if there was a suitable track. The whole of the Creek to within a short distance of the Government dam has been taken up for dredging purposes. A prospecting party lias had to temporarly abandon their tunnel owing to tho state of the track. Consideraberablo interest ha? been taken in diverting the Lake Hochstetter water ; applications havo been made for that purpose. 3rd. It tho track were opened up tourists, sportsmen and others desirious of visiting the lake, which is only aboui 10 miles from Hatters, could do so with ease,

4th. The people of the district consider that the track is required, and is of great benefit to them." It was also resolved:—"That this meeting accord Mr Guinness, the member for the district, a hearty vote of thanks for the trouble he has taken in placing this matter before Parliament." The usual vote of thanks to the chair brought tho meeting to a close.
