Wellington, This Day. The Department of Agriculture has received the following from the AgentGeneral, dated London March 23 Butter is quoted at 100 s. The market is dull. Heavy supplies of butter are in hand. Cheese 48s, the market is lifeless. The recent shipments of cheese are of better quality than previous ones.
N. Z. homp—good, fair Wellington, £2*l 10s ; fair current Manilla £34. Th hemp market is very firm.
Cocks foot 171 b standard 325. Buyers arc not keen to do business in Cocks foot for quick sales, and lowest price would have to be accepted. Canterbury mutton, average, 4 ; {-d; Dunedin and Wellington, 4d ; Australian! 3*d. Elver Plate Bid. Canterbury lamb Wellington o.Jd. Australian 4i|d. Beef, limit 3:|d, fores 3[d. The total sales in mutton received since January Ist are 1,208,845 carcases, against 1,140,046 for last year for the same period.
The total for lambs was 425,747, against 336,312. The market is steady. The beef market is not favorable.
