GREY HARBOR BOARD.

The regular meeting of the above Board was held last night. Present: Messrs Kettle (chairman), Kerr, Malheson and Petrie.

The Engineer reported that the quarry was being got ready and the crane was being erected. Other material was well advanced for a start. No satisfactory reply had been received in regard to the bore hole.

The adoption of the balance-sheet duly audited was agreed to. Report from Harbor Master stated bar in good order. During February 41 steamers and 2 sailing vessels had come into port and a like number gone out.

Prom Mines Department agreeing to subsidise bore at Brunner to extent of £250.

From Mr Ashton asking for £2 for damage to vehicle through crossing bridge while some repairs were being made. The Chairman said the damage was not done through the wheel catching in the ruts, and careless driving. He moved that no liability be admitted. Seconded by Mr Kerr and carried.

From the Premier stating that a further extension of time had been granted to Messrs Dawes and Co to enable a report to be made upon the property. General regret was expressed at the delay, and the question of reopening the Wallscnd Mine was discussed. Mr Petrie moved that the Chairman interview Mr Taylor with the view of ascertaining the chances of reopening the Wallscnd Mine. Mr Kerr and Mr Matheson opposed the resolution. The Chairman said he would obtain the information and report at next meeting.

A letter was received from Harley and Co stating at wliat rate they would insure the Board’s employees against accident or death. Consideration was deferred till the solicitor’s opinion on the question was obtained. Mr Mathcson moved that Master Barrowman be appointed as messenger to the Board at £1 a week temporarily.— Seconded by Mr Petrie and carried. It was resolved to rc-insure the tug Westland for £'2,000.
