The Premier in answer to a deputation from the City Council, said Ministers had come to a fixed determination not to subdidiso local bodies expenditure on the reception of the Duke of Cornwall, and nothing had arisen to induce them to alter their decision. The First Contingent. Members of the First Contingent have formed an Association with a view to keeping in touch with each other, and will celebrate their departure for Africa by a dinner in Wellington on the 21st of October next, and thereafter hold annual re-unions at the chief provincial towns in rotation. Appeal Court. Wellington, This Day. The Appeal Court opened to-day in the caso Solititor-General versus WaUis. This was an application by the SolicitorGeneral to file further affidavits in case of reserve vostcd by the Bishop of Wellington and others as trustees for the purpose of a Maori School. The Solicitor-General applied to file further documents, showing the objections by the natives, concerned to decree made to the Supreme Court by the Chief Justico and justice Edwards. The application was opposed, but the Gaurt allowed it on the ground that the matter was one of puhlic interest, and that the question should be finally disposed of on all available evidence.
