THE CONINGHAM CASE.

[by ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT

[Per Press Association.]

Sydney, March 15

In the Coningham case the Cardinal was examined at length. A letter dated November last to O’tfaran was put in as evidence. It says that he considered it a matter of duty to convey in an official manner his sinccrest condolence in the terrible ordeal of persecution you arc being subjected to. After a tribute to the magnificent success of O’Haran’s ministry, he says : “ You may rest assured that this attempt of Satan will be discomfited und all these present trials only add splendor to the religion amongst us. Our divine master permits the present burden of persecution as a lesson to bear his cross fruitfully whilst looking solely to Heaven for reward. Should

you require any material aid in your defence against this malicious conspiracy you may draw on my account for any sum you require.”
