THE AUSTRALIAN ELECTIONS
[by ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. —COPYRIGHT.] (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, March 14. The nominations closed to-day for the Federal Senate. Fifty were received, including Labor and Socialist hunches. Most of the prominent nominees (who range through the social gamut from tram guards up) are—E. E. O’Connor, A. Gould, Colonel Mackay (commanding the Bushmen in South Africa.) and John Norton (editor of Truth). Melbourne, March 14. The nominations made for’both Houses are 20 for the Senate, including Sirs W. Zeal, F. Sargood, and J. Huffy, W. Watt, J. L. How, J. Purvcs, K. Kcid, S. Fraser. There are over (10 for the House, including Sir J. Quick (Bendigo), A. M‘Lcan (ex-Premier, Queensland) S. Maughcr (Secretary of the Protectionist Association) and the ports electorates being returned unopposed. The nominees include Sir Geo. Turner, Heakin, Isaacs, Carty, Salmon (ex-Ministers), and Sir Malcolm McKachcrn.
