CLASSIFICATION OF SCHOOL TEACHERS.
(per press association.)
New Plymouth, March 13.
The Finance Committe of the Taranaki Educa ion Board presented a report on the increased grants which were considered by the Board tc-day. The committee found that the Government scale was on the same basis as the Board’s with one or two anomalies of little importance. They recognised the scheme was a colonial one, the classification
being based on attendance coupled with teachers’ qualifications and and marks for skill, greater importance being attachad to the latter, and greater increments going to smaller schools than to larger ones. They did not concur in the proposed conference of Board ; and they considered the action of the Department was in the right direction. The report was unanimously approved by the Board, several members expressing their pleasure in assisting the Department to bring about a uniform scale. A full report of the proceedings will bo sent to the various Education Boards of the Colony.
