(per press association.) Visit of the Yorks. Received this day at 10 30 a.m. Sydney, March 14. A mooting of citizens appointed an influential committee to co-operate with the Government arrangements for the visit of the Yorks. Rival Steam Company Spreckles had un interview with Barton in reference to the Oceanic Steamship Coy. Barton states that no definite proposal was made but a further interview was arranged for. The Herald dealing with tho question of tho proposed subsidy to Spreckles says “if the steamship traffic between our ports and Frisco is large enough to bs a matter of any particular concern to us, it is largo enough to pay Spreckles without a subsidy. It adds “It must not be forgotten that tho American Company enters into direct competition with ourselves, whilj in tho Union Coy wo have an Australasian enterprise possessing considerable claims upon us.” Ministerial Change. Lefroy, Minister of Mines has been appointed Agent-General. The vacancy in tho Ministry is not to bs filled till after the general elections.
