Who’s Boss Here.

Some fun was occasioned on the Palmerston railway platform last week (says Monday’s Manawatu Standard) by the contrary orders given by the two commanders—the Eight Hon E. J. Seddon and Colonel Penton. Mr Seddon wanted the people to have a look at the troops after the volunteers had marched away, but Colonel Penton had given instructions to Captain Campbell to march the men into the carriage. Mr Seddon countermanded the latter instructions in very loud tones, and turning to Colonel Penton, said in loud tones, “I’d like to know if I’m boss here ?” The Colonel rejoined. “If you have any orders to give to the troops, I would like them given through me,’’ and the two glared at each ether for a second or two, while the member for Palmerston interjected, “There’s only one person who will do the bossing when the Premier is around.” And the troops resumed their position on the platform.
