The German Naval Budget

Berlin, March 5.

The Naval Budget Committee’s report presented to the Ksictstag state, that the Krupps-Stumms monopoly armour plates cost the German navy three million marks annually over the cost of similar plates manufactured in America, from KruppsStumms patent. The monopoly involved a loss of sixty million marks upon the recent naval programme. The committee recommended the establishment of Government works for the manufacture, of the plates.

In the House of Commons, Capt Prcttyman, one of the Civil Lords of the Admiralty when explaining a vote for the Australian Contingent in'China, declared that their services proved most va’uable. Ho highly appreciated their gallantry which was always conspicuous.

Jamcs Daly, member for Monaghan South, remarked the fact that only six hundred could be picked up at tho street corners, showed that the colonies were out of sympathy with Britain. Tho vote was passed by 235 to G 7 ■

J. 0. Flynn, member for Cork North, said the payment of £2,400 for services of tho South Australian Gunboat protector was not evidence of tho high character of colonial loyalty.
