FIRE BRIGADES CONFERENCE.

CuBiSTCHUBCir, February 20. The Fire Brigade Conference was resumed to-day. It was resolved to hold an exhibition of fire appliances at a cost not exceeding £IOO.

The question of instituting an association badge was referred to the incoming executive. It was reported that Captain Michel and Fireman Wallace (Hokitika), Captain Blackwell (Kaiapoi), and Foreman Wooleott (Wellington) had earned gold stars for 25 years service. Invitations were extended by the delegates from Hokitika and Bluff to hold the next conference at those places. A ballot was taken and it resulted in favor of Hokitika. The following officers were elected : President, Lieut. W. Baker (Gore); Vice Presidents, Captain Washer (Koslyn) and Secretary Walton (Grcymouth); Secretary and Treasurer, Siipt. Gilbcrd (Napier) ; Auditor, Mr Garner (Napier). ltcsolved to pay tho usual subsidy of £35 to the New Zealand Fire and Ambulance ltecord, the understanding being that unless the journal received better support it should be discontinued in June. An Accident Insurance Society meeting in connection with the Association was then held, and it was reported that since the society was formed in 1892 £IOOS 4s lOd had been received in contributions and £79 10s 4d in interest. The expenditure for the benefits amounted to £302 2s. The credit balance was £729 18s Bd. It was decided that any member, who meets with an accident while at practice or while going to, or engaged at, or returning from a fire, should be entitled to an allowance of 30s a week for a term not exceeding twenty weeks. On any brigade, which is in arrears with its contributions to the society for over thirty days, a penalty of Od a member shall be inflicted.
