Kennedy Elliot, Moderator of the Preabytarian General Assembly, has forwarded to the Premier a letter in which he strongly protests against the travelling of the Indian troops from New Plymouth to Wellington last Sunday and the military displays at various town 3 along the railway. Band Contest ?. Wanoakui, Feb. 27. At a meeting of the Band Contest Committee to-night, arrangements were reported to bo in a forward state. Great dissatisfaction was expressed at the action of the Wellington Garrison Band withdrawing at a late stage, particularly as dates were altered to suit their convenience and the local band offered to pay their train fare-. Wangantji, Feb. 27. At the Supremo Court to-day the Chief Justice made a presentment on behalf of Constable O'Brien, of Waverley for his gallant conduct on the occasion of hi i arrest of Bourns, who attempted to murder a bank clerk named Hickson near Waverley. The grand jury expressed the opinion that a constable who unarmed could follow and arrest a man with a loaded revolver in his possession, was entitled to some recognition.
