DE WET’S LITTLE JOKE.
The following amusing story about Commandment Da Wetfis told in a private letter received lately by a Glasgow reader of M.A.P. from an officer serving with the Army in South Africa. The in question writes as follows: —“ Three Aeomanry scouts were taken prisoners by the now redoubtable General De Wet near Lindley. Do Wet, who does not care to be burdened with prisoners, told these three yeomen, on being brought before him that ho had an important despatch for General Bundle, and if they would personally undertake to deliver it to the , General he would give them back their liberty. Naturally, they were elated at the proposal, and all three gave De Wet their word of honour to deliver the missive into General Bundle’s own hands’ They received it, a large envelope, well sealed, and with all the outward appearance of containing some important document. Possibly they may have thought it contained a proposal from De Wet to surrender. In any case, they lost no time in saddling up, and _ covered the ground in no time. On reaching Bundle’s headquarters they insisted on handing the letter to the General personally, and on his opening it—the three braves stiff standing as his audience —read aloud the contents as followsTo General Bundle. Dear sir—Please chain up these three devils, aa I can catch them every day.—Yours, De TVet.”
SANDER & SONS’ EUCALYPTI EXTRACT- —Under the distinguished patronage of His Majesty the King of Italy, as per communication made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, through the Consul-General for Italy at Melbourne, March 14, 1878. _ Awarded diploma at the Amsterdam Exhibition, 1883Acknowledged by Medical Clinics and Uni versities all over the Globe.
There are imitations of Eucalypti Extract in the market, products of simple distillation, orming crude, resinous oils. In order that these crude oils may not be taken for our purVolatile Eucalypti Extract, which is recognised by the Medical Division of the Prussian Government to be of perfectly pure origin, as per information forwarded to us through the Consul at Melbourne, March 2, 1878, we state: —
It is proved by tests made by the Medical Clinics of the Universities of Bonn and Griefswald (Prussia), and reported to by Dr Schultz Professor of Pharmacology at Bonn, and Professor Dr Mossier, Director of the Medical Clines at Griefswald, that only products that are saturated with oxygen and freed of acids resinous and other substances adherent to primary distillation, will develop the sanative qualifies proper to the plant. All crude oils or so-called Eucalypti Extracts, are to be classed according to the named authoriti !S, among the turpentines, which are abandoned long since as an internal medicament. Tl ese crude oil, or so-called Eucalypti Extracts, are discernible:
1. By their deficiency in pungent odor (which our product, the only genuine Eusa lypti Extract, develops most freely through ts surplus oxygen.) 2. By their alcoholic, thin, and mobile appearance, being reduced to specific density through the presence of acids. 3. By their taste, the result of contract ing tendency of resins and tanats. If these crude oils, or so-called Eucalypti Extracts, are applied by mistake in cases of croup, bronchitis, dipthcria, internal inflammation, dysentry, etc., the consequences are most appalling. For safety’s sake ask always or Sander and Sons’ Eucalypti Extract. — Sandhurst, Victoria, Australia.—SANDEß & SONS.
