The Kliplaat Junction Affair.

Received this day at 9 7 a.m. London, February 13,

Details of the fight at Kliplaat Junction on the 6th show that twelve of the Seventh Dragoon Guards, twelve Westralians and three mounted police while carrying despatches encountered several hundred Boers.

The British, occupying two. small kopjes, gallantly replied for hours with heavy rifle fire, four Westralians preventing a flanking movement until the Boers made a wide detour, completely surrounding them at sunset. Two hundred of the enemy, under cover of a heavy fire from the main body charged, overpowering and capturing the British, who, after being stripped of arms and other belongings and complimented upon their bravery were released. The Boers admitted they had five killed.

It is reported at Capetown that De "Wet has crossed the Orange Eiver and is proceeding to Phillipstown. Corporal Challis of the New South Wales Bushmen died of enteric. Adelaide, This Day. In reply to an enquiry, Kitchener informed the Government that the service of the new contingents will be for one year or until the end of the war.

Melbourne, This Day.

The transport Argus sailed with 500 contingent horses. The men get away on Friday,

Hobart, This Day.

The Government offer of 120 additional mounted men for South Africa lias been acoeptod. Lieut-001. Watohorn commands the contingent. Pekth, This Day.

The Government has decided to send a Sixth Contingent of the same strength as tho Fifth.
