OUR KUMARA LETTER.
(OtTB OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
A meeting of the Young Men's Club was held on Tuesday night at 8 p. m. at the Club's rooms, School of Mines. There was a fair attendance, Mr E. "Whitehouse in the chair. Eev. Mr Thompson was elected a member, Eev. Mr Clark was nominated a member as were also Messrs Blick and Olden. The chairman reported having applied to the Government for a share of the grant made to libraries.
Tho chief business of the evening was then proceeded with, viz., the alteration of certain rulos so as to widen the constitution of the Club and remove from it any suspicion of sectarianism that might prevent any one from becoming a member.
The alterations proposed were unanimously agreed to, and a further notice of motion was given to alter the name to Kumara Young Men's Club. The Secretary was instructed to write to the founder, Eev. E. A. Woodthorpe M. A., and request him to supplj the Club with a photo of himself as a momento to be hung in the Club's room. The annual general meeting was fixed for Tuesday 20th Feb. Tho following are tho names of applicants for the position of head master for the Kumara State school have been forwardod to the Local School committee to make a final selection :—W. Winchester, TV". D. Mackay, H. Williams, J. J. Henderson, and G. K. Sinclair. The above names of teachers are under the Westland Education Board, possessing ►certificates not less than D.I. It seems a useless waste of money for the Board to advertise in tho three centres for applications, and yet restrict their choice to local teachers having certificates of a certain grade.
