MASONIC MEMORIAL SERVICE.
A large gathering of Masons took place last evening at their hall Tainui Street, the occasion being a memorial service as a tribute of respect to our departed Queen Victoria, the esteemed mother of the Grand Master of England, the Prince _of Wales, now King Edward VII. The interior of the Lodge was most lavishly draped with black and purple, and blending with the mourning regalia worn by each brother made a spectacle which went to show in what respect our late beloved Sovereign was held by the brotherhood. The Chaplain of the Lodge, Rev. Bro. G. W. York, addressed the brethern, and in eulogistic terms paid a high tribute to the virtue and wisdon desplayed by the late Queen all through her long and glorious reign. At the close of the address, a flourish of trumpets was sounded and King Edward VII was proclaimed in the Greymouth Lodge, E.C. by the D.D.G.M. Bro. J. Kerr,. P.M, Bro. E, I. Lord, and P.M. Bro. J. Steer, and “ God Save the King” sung fervently. The Choir under the able leadership of G. T. Moss, lent harmony to the solemn ceremony. The Lodge was called of at 9 80 until this evening at 8 when business in connection with the ordinary monthly meeting will be conducted and visitors are cordially invited.
