THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
The annual meeting of members of the St John’s Presbyterian Church, Greymouth, was held last night. The Rev Mr Stewart presiding. The session report staled that services had been regularly conducted. The requirements of the outlying districts had been attended as circumstances permitted. In April last a fortnightly service had been commenced at Camerons, which had proved highly successful in every respect. The Chairman made special mention of the kindness of Mr and Mrs J. D. Gillies who had not only given the use of the principal room in their house for the services, but by their considerate kindness and open-hearted welcome they extended to all, had disseminated a feeling of cordial fellowship which had made the services very attractive. He declared that he had never conducted more pleasant or happier services anywhere, and that he and the people were laid under a great obligation by the kindness so freely bestowed. The Superintendent of the Sabbath School (Mr J. Ring) reported a prosperous state of affairs. The number on the roll was steadily increasing. For all purposes the sum of £74 16s lid had been raised.
The Secretary’s report and Treasurer’s balance-sheet made it apparent that the congregation is advancing financially, During the year extensive alterations and additions had been made to the means.
the contract price being £340 10s. The total receipts, including that raised tor Sabbath school purposes, amounted to £303 11s 9d.
Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the Superintendent and teachers of the Sabbath school, to the organist and choir, to the out-going committee, especially the secretary (Mr C, A. West) and treasurer (Mr D. Tennent); also to Mr T. Brown, treasurer of the Susteutatiou Fund, and to the ladies who collect for that fund. Also to Mrs King, caretaker of the church, for the .manner in which she performs her duties, and for her uniform kindness and courtesy. A special vote of thanks was passed to the minister, the Rev. E. Stewart, and the hope was expressed that the cordial relations subsisting between him and the congregation would long continue. The following gentlemen were elected a committee of management for the ensuing year :—Messrs Arnott, W. Blair, Bradshaw, Burnett, Forsyth, Ferens, Kerr (jnr.), M'Meckiu, J. M‘Lean, M‘Caul, Nelson, Ollerenshaw, Portcous, Reynolds, West and Wainwright. The meeting was brought to a close by ■ pronouncing the Benediction.
