SCHOOL INSPECTORS’ CONFERENCE.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
Wellington. February 3. The School Inspectors’ Conference today passed the following resolutions: — (1) Asking the Minister of Education to establish a special examination and issue a special diploma or certificate to teachers who show a thorough theoretical and practical knowledge in cadi of the following subjects :—Singing, general science, drawing, drill, domestic economy. (2) Stating that the cause of true education would be immensely benefitted by a more careful selection of teachers capable exercising an elevating influence over the pupils. (3) Suggesting the advisability of establishing pension scheme for teachers and inspectors, (4) Expressing the opinion that for the better protection of the interests of the country tho examination and inspection of private schools by the public school inspectors is desirable, (o) Affirming the desirability of maintaining training colleges at the four principal centres. (6) Intimating that in the opinion of the Conference, Inspectors should be placed under the authority of the central department.
