"Wellington, This Day. Re Blatch case, the letter from the Chief of the Police states that a number of Tacome citizens have identified the
photograph as being that of Lillywhite, whom theyjknew well as a painter and decorator. The statement is enclosed from F. C. Clarke, whom the Chief of Police warrants to be a reputable citizen, and who says Ltllywhite was never beyond his reach from 1889 to July 1891, when he saw him off by the steamer to New Zealand. (The murder occurred in December 1803.) The Chiefj stales it would be easy io get affidavits of identification from a number of reputable citizens.
The portrait of Lillywhite in Trades' Union Group is also sent. Skcrrctt says it has been Conceded if documents found in the accused man's possession which were his property that lie could not possibly be Blatcli. This question he claims in now set at rest by the correspondence.
