MESSRS H. C. HARLEY & CO.
One of the moat enterprising firms in | Greymouth at the present time is the firm | of H. 0. Harley aud Co., and we feel sure a short account of their rapid success will be of great intrest to their many wellwishers. Mr. H. C. Harley, who is the principal of the firm, after leaving Nelson College served an apprenticship of five years in the offices of Messrs Bout and Sons, House, Land and Financial Agents, Nelson, from whom he came to take up a position in Greymouth. It was at once evident that we had one of the real energetio business type of men, who would always work his way to the front without waiting to be pushed there. The firm of Harley and Co., was only established 16 months ago, and their success and growth is really most marked. Commencing business in a small office about 12ft square in Hospital stn et, it soon became necessary to rem >ve to larger premises, and the firm secured the old established West Coast Cycle "Works in Mackay Street, together with the offices attached thereto. At this moment clerical assistance was required and Mr. Fred Harley (a brother) was sent for, and he also does not allow the grass to grow under his feet, It has now become necessary for the firm to still further _ increase their storage capacity and thus they have bought for their auction mart that splendidly adapted building known as Bennie's Theatre. Extensive alterations and additions are now being effected and in the course of a few weeks Messrs Harley and Co Mill have one of the largest and best business premises in Greymouth. The fact of such rapid growth in such a brief space of time, makes it needless to enlarge fully upon the firm's business qualifications, but it does speak well in respect' to the confidence reposed in them bj r the numerous clients for their integrity, business capacity and characteristic energy. Some extent of their business may be gathered from their many agencies, which include bicycles, pianos, typewriters, washing machines, sewing machines, in addition to house, land and estate agency, sharebrokers, insurance agents (both fire and life), and last but not least their latest venture the auctioneering. We congratulate Messrs Harley and Co upon their enterprise and pluck, and feel sure they will meet with the success which they certainly deserve.
