Slip on Central Railway. Dunedin, This Day, The slip of rock on the Otago Central lins, near Mount Allen, has now been removed. The goods trains are again running. The Royal Visit. Wellington, January 17. A number of representative Maoris waited on Mr Ward to-day and made proposals for giving a great native welcome, to the Duke of York on his arrival in the colony. The natives propose that war canoes be brought to Wellington, and that the loading Chiefs shall welcome His Highness in approved Maori fashion. Mr Ward promised to putthomateer before the authorities arranging the delails of |he Royal visit.
ftew Zealander in Brisbane. The Hon Mr Ward received a cable from Mr Seddon, now at Brisbane, stating that the Now Zealand Contingent received a great reception on their arrival yesterday. The sieamcr sailed again at noon today. The Premier says that he goes back to Sydney on Saturday, thence to Melbourne en route for the Bluff. Coal Mines Commission. The members of the Coal Alines Commission will leave Wellington for the West Coast to-morrow, and will bold the first sittings in that part of the colony at Westport on Monday. Conditions of Sixth Contingent. The form of oath taken by the Sixth Contingent, members declare (hat they will serve within or without the colony until lawfully discharged. A Motor Car Journey. Napier, January 17. X. Oates and Wildley with a motor car accomplished a journey of 103 miles to-day, coming through from Pnluatua and reaching Hastings at 10 30 p.m. Owing to a slight accident to the spokes of the car progress over the Eimutaka was slow, and the bad road from Takapau to Waipukurau also prevented a speedy journey. Great interest was taken in the car as it moved through the country districts.
