THE COLCHESTER MURDER.

(per press association.)

Wellington, This Day. The prisoner went into the box and gave the history of his life on the same lines as what he had previously stated. He produced letters from America, a Crown grant for land in Tacoma that ho occupied before the murder, and a certificate of membership of the Painters’ and Decorators’ Brotherhood of North America. He again denied that ho was the man wanted. During the luncheon adjournment Lillywhito was shaved, and the two English witnesses afterwards stated that after seeing him without a beard and hearing him give his evidence they were prepared to say that the prisoner was Blatch. Mr Bell, for the Crown, stated that he would to-morrow apply to the deputyGovernor to have the warrant endorsed, and during the day he would apply to the S. M. for the prisoner’s committal. The proceedings were then adjourned till the morning.
