The Launching Ceremony.

Tho Orwell Creek pontoon was successfully launched on Monday afternoon last. Over a hundred persons were present, including Mr M’Qucon, tho representative of the designer, Tho contractor, Mr Fitzgerald, with his usual foresight took very good care to sec that no hitch occurred, and asroon as tho words ‘'Let go,” were given he gave tho block a tup and the pontoon glided gracefully into the paddock prepared for her reception, Mrs Erickson, tho while, christening the dredge with the usual bottle of champaign. Subsequently, those assembled partook of refreshments provided. The health of the engineers, contractors, and shareholders wore proposed, and appropriately responded to. In tho evening a dance in honor of the occasion was held in the schoolroom, when a most enjoyable time was passed. The pontoon is 100 feet long, 31 feet beam, depth aft 7 feet, G feet fore. She was designed by Mr Roberts of Dunedin, and built by Mr J. Fitzgerald, under tho supervision of Mr M’Queen. The barge has been faithfully built, and the contractor is to bo congratulated upon the excellence of his work.
