£20,000 WORTH OF GOLD.

Our American Cousins who reckon in dollars, would have the above “ One hundred thousand dollars worth of gold dust,” and the figures would look much larger than a modest “ Twenty thousand pounds worth.” Yet as we reckon it, its a very tidy looking sum, and when ’tis in gold bars and gold dust it affords convincing proof of the West Coast wealth. Wo have just before us a fine ■ photograph of gold bars, bags and tins, the latter filled with the precious metal. The picture is by Mr. Ring and, excellent, in his best style. It represents the National Bank purchases of gold for December. The metal is displayed to advantage. In the centre in form as under is written;—

TOTAL 4,825 OUNCES, VALUE : £19,300.

While round is grouped nineteen bars of gold ranging in weight from 363 ounces down to 34 ounces, five bags of yellow metal and three dishes of same material, the largest holding 309 ounces. The Bank did a very wise thing in getting such a photograph taken illustrative of West Coast resources, and it will always prove an interesting memento. So far as wo are concerned, we regret to say wo have but the shadow—the photograph —the Bank has got the reality. We don't suppose the Bank will exchange with us. Wo congratulate Mr. Broad and his popular henchman—Mr Okey —upon the magnificent result of their December labors.
