received this day, at 2 54 a.m. Sydney, January 9. Dickson of Queensland, and a member of the Federal Cabinet, is now at Sydney, dangerously ill with diabetes. His con-' ddion is causing the gravest anxiety.

Sydney, This Day. Sir J. R. Dickson, Federal Minister for Defwce, died early this morning ai the Australian Club whera ha '.vis staying, since his arrival in Sydney he has suffered from diabetes. Tho longtime exertions in connection with the Commonwealth celebrations aggravated the disease, but not until yesterday morning, when he became unconscious was it thought that there was m mediate danger. Two daughters were present at his death. Other members of the family including Lady Dickson are expected to-day Dickson was in his 69th year. He had been married twice and leaves a grown up family by the first wife. For years ho was a prominent political figure in Queensland. He was a liberal and free-trader and took a leading part in rhe Federal movement. He wa3 chiefly responsible for inducing Queensland to join tho Union. He acted as tho Colony's delegate in England on the Commonwealth Bill. It will be remembered that ho received Knighthood at the beginning of this year.
