ANOTHER COLONIAL KNIGHT.
Sir Henry Miller will for the future be the title of the respected Speaker of New Zealand's Legislative Council —vide the list of New Year honors published the other day. Sir Henry Miller is the second son of the late Sir Thomas Miller, Bart., and was born at Proyle, Hants, in 1830. He settled in Otago in 1860, and lias long been connected w ith pastoral pursuits in the Oamaru district. He was one of the founders of the Westport Coal Company, and at the present time is Chairman of the Board of Directors. He represented Oamaru in the Otago Provincial Council, and for about two years he was Secretary for Public Works in the Provincial Executive. On Bth July, 1865, he was called to the Legislative Council in the Weld Ministry. In July, 1872, he took oflice in the Fox Ministry as a member of the Executive Council without portfolio, and he retained the seat until the Ministry resigned three months later. Jn July, 1892, he was elected Speaker of the Legislative Council as successor to the late Sir Harry Atkinson. New Zealand as a colony will feel honored in the distinction conferred upon him.
