A Deserter. Christchuech, January 7. A man named Oscar Henderson who was arrested to-day for deserting from the barque Auriga, escaped from cus.tody when being taken to the police station. He was recaptured aftar a chase of about half an hour. Run-away Prisoner. WMlo half a dozen prisoners, who had been dealt with at the Christchurcii Court, were being taken to Lyttelton, ono of them, named Cunningham jumped out of the train and made off, hotly pursued by a constable. Cumining fell in getting over a fence, and thus was speedily caught. Electric Energy. At the request of a deputation of citizens the Mayor has agreed to convene a pubhe meeting to consider the question of utilising the river Waimakariri as a source of electrical energy for Christchurch and district.
