A RELEASED CONVICT.
Attempts to murder Detective Toomey. [r,y ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT] (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, January G. A great sensation occurred while a dense crowd was congregated in the vicinity of the Post Ollico listening to the band. Detective Toomey, who came over from Brisbane, was stabbed in the back by a man named Baker, alleged to bo a well known Queensland criminal. lie was arrested. Toomey is in a serious condition. Toomey’s wound is four inches deep just below the right shoulder. Toomey at the Hospital recognised Baker as the man he was responsible for getting sentenced to eight years for burglary. Ho was amongst the prisoners, a portion of whoso sentences the Queensland Government had remitted in connection with the Commonwealth. At the time he was sentenced, he threatened to do for Toomey.
