At the last sitting of the Resident Magistrate’s Court in Colling-,vood the following cases were heard: John Me Cart v P. Moynahan, illegally charging under ‘The Impounding Act’; defendant fined 5/. and costs 15/. Phamicia Brewer v Thomas Brewer, action for assault; a ; the plaintiff did not put in an appearance the case was dismissed. F. Staliavd vJ. Carter, this claim was arranged privately. James Scrimgeour v Alexander Walker, claim for £3, balance of .-contract for busb-falling; judgment for the amount, with costs 17/. In the Warden’.; Court, before W. Gibbs Esq. the following applications wore received: AY. Bond extended claim, opposed by R. Bryce. Refused, costs to he paid by applicant. A. R Saunders, application for extended claim, water-race, dam and, reservoir at Quartz Ranges, granted. Minister of Public \,\ orks contained in telegram of the 7th Dec, and that this Council will provide the fourth of the amount promised to be granted, viz £175. Moved by Cr Willicombe, seconded by Cr J. Reilly and carried, That to provide the £L7S to make one fourth of the additional £7Ol required for tho completion

Last Monday nig’it the ketch Comet, Captain Barns, ran ashore on Farewell bpit about -5 miles from the Lighthouse. She is owned by Messrs Cook Bros of Lyttelton, and was bound from Taranaki to Waitap a in ballast. Up to yesterday she was still lying in the same position as when she went a shore
