The Patriotism of the Colonies.
{Per Press Association.}
London, November 4
Mr Chamberlain, Secretary of State for the Colonies, speaking at Glasgow, said tbat patriotism had become a Democratic passion. Those who had giveu the colonies home role expected that th« colonies would soon declare their independence of policy- However, the Jubilee gathering would mean the utter discomfiture of that policy, and no English Minister wonld again suggest a separation. The most satisfactory signs were the demands for closer union from the colonies, though the exact form in which this should be brought about was not now of so much importance. The prospect of a really united Empire was now becomiug a question of practical politics.
