The X.Z.L. and M.A. Co. have received the following cablegram at their Wanganui branch dated London, 22nd October, 1897 :—C«ood demand for sheepskins. Merino, |d ; crossbred, }d higher. (Per Press Association.) London, October 28. New Zealand frozen mutton. —Cross bred wethers, maiden ewes -Canterbury, 3frd per 1b; Dunedin Southland, 3d; North Island, 215 16d. The above quotations are for average quality, and for lines of not less than oue hundred carcases. Lamb-Prime Canterbury (821b to 421bi, 3jd per lb ; fair average, including Dnuedin, Southland, Wellington ton and secondary Canterbury, per 321b to 421b, 3Jd per lb. Tbo quotations for lamb do not include sales of small lambs or heavies or inferior qualities. River Plate sheep, crossbreds or merino wethers - Heavy, 2 9 16d: heht, 2|d. * ' At the auction of Australian sheepskins, 4687 were offered and 4760 sold. Merinos wr.ro }<i to $d higher, and crossbreds £d to \d higher. Butter —Australian, 100s; Danish, 92 kroner.
